Veneers Q & A

Why is cosmetic dentistry important?

Any change you want to make to the way your teeth look is important because your smile can transform your appearance and boost your self-confidence.

Cosmetic dentistry uses several dental procedures to improve the appearance of your teeth. Many people want white teeth, but cosmetic procedures can also hide gaps between teeth and correct discoloration, crooked teeth, and cracked teeth.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin shells -- usually porcelain -- that are directly applied to the surface of a tooth to correct cosmetic flaws such as discoloration, cracks, chips, and uneven teeth. They can be custom tinted and shaped to match your neighboring teeth.

Veneers are also used to change the appearance of a misshapen tooth. In some cases, veneers can even cover gaps between teeth.

What does getting veneers entail?

Dr. Deca examines your teeth to see if any pre-existing conditions need to be fixed first. Then she removes a tiny about of enamel from the tooth’s surface to ensure that the veneer lays flush with your other teeth and makes an impression of your teeth to create the veneers.

You’ll wear temporary veneers while the permanent ones are produced. When your new veneers are ready, they’re attached to your teeth, and a curing light hardens the dental cement and completes the procedure.

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover is a series of cosmetic dental treatments designed to simultaneously correct multiple issues which affect an individual’s smile, including gums and teeth. When creating a smile makeover plan, Dr. Deca seeks to use the most conservative and least invasive treatments to achieve a patient’s desired outcome.

Smile makeover programs are always individually designed to address each patient’s issues, whether that’s discoloration, misshapen teeth, overcrowding, or missing or crooked teeth.

What treatments are involved in a smile makeover?

A smile makeover, also called a full mouth rehabilitation or reconstruction, combines a variety of dental procedures. Dr. Deca carefully plans and coordinates the order of services to ensure the best possible results.

The most common procedures performed in a smile makeover are:

  • Whitening procedures to remove surface stains
  • Veneers for correcting cracks, chips, gaps, and stains
  • Crowns to correct defects and protect and strengthen teeth
  • Dental implants and bridges to restore missing teeth
  • Onlays to correct large cavities and offer natural-looking results
  • Orthodontics, including Invisalign®
  • Tooth-colored composite fillings
  • Dental bonding
  • Cosmetic gum surgery
